Half of my experimenting in the kitchen comes out of using leftover ingredients with our pantry staples. I like to think that the test of the perfectly imperfect kitchen, is one where most combinations of ingredients result in everything tasting great. Last week, I put our kitchen to the test, experimenting with four leftover ingredients in two different sandwiches. They use elements from the Shitake Mushroom & Lentil Tacos, my turkey sandwiches at work, and our Egg White Sandwich. The resulting sandwiches turned out incredibly flavorful, satisfying, and easy to prepare – making my experiment a success!
Some notes
- The four ingredients I used were: Toasted whole wheat sandwich thin, Micro Greens (mixed or arugula), 1/2 tbsp. Miso Herb Sauce, and 1/8 mashed avocado
- The two ways: Egg whites or turkey (I think any protein will work here)
- For the turkey sandwich, I added about 1/3 cup fresh baby spinach
- Stored in the refrigerator, the Miso Herb Sauce lasts about a week
